Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 June 2026
This policy explains what information STEM EDU collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We collect as little as possible — especially when it comes to children.
1. Our approach to privacy
STEM EDU (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, how we handle it, and your choices. We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Because our lessons are used by children, we deliberately collect as little as possible.
2. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the Service:
- •Account email address — so we can send your magic sign-in link and account emails.
- •Learner profile — an optional first name or nickname and a year level you choose, used to suggest lessons at the right level. You do not need to use a child's real name.
- •Learning progress — which lessons have been completed and your scores, so progress can sync across your devices.
- •Payment information — if you subscribe, this is handled by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card details; we keep only a customer/subscription reference and your plan status.
- •Basic technical data — standard server logs and security information needed to operate the site reliably.
3. Children's information
Accounts are created and controlled by a parent, guardian or educator. Any learner details (such as a first name and year level) are entered by that adult, who can edit or delete them at any time from the profile page. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children, show them third-party advertising, or build advertising profiles.
4. How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- •Sign you in and keep your account secure.
- •Save and sync learning progress across your devices.
- •Process memberships and manage subscriptions.
- •Send essential account and service emails (such as sign-in links and billing notices).
- •Maintain, protect and improve the Service.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use children's data for advertising.
5. Service providers we share with
We share limited information with trusted providers only so they can perform services for us:
- •Vercel — hosting of the website and our database.
- •Resend — sending sign-in and account emails (receives your email address).
- •Stripe — processing payments and managing subscriptions (receives payment and billing details directly from you).
These providers may process data outside Australia. We take reasonable steps to ensure they protect your information. We may also disclose information if required by law.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is active. If you delete your account from the profile page, we delete your account and associated progress data, except where we must retain limited records (for example, billing records) to meet legal obligations.
7. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and passwordless sign-in. No online service can be completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data and to respond promptly to any incident.
8. Cookies and tracking
We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to operate the site securely. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
9. Your rights and choices
You can view and update your learner profile, clear your progress, or delete your account at any time from the profile page. You may also contact us to ask what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to request its deletion. If you have a concern we cannot resolve, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the date above when we do and, for significant changes, take reasonable steps to let you know.
